We also aim to optimize horse performance through trimming and shoeing applications designed for each horse as an individual. We believe that each horse deserves to be handled patiently and quietly  without abuse, or mistreatment.  We strive to to educate horse owners on the basics of equine hoof care and to promote professionalism throughout our work.

We have found that the most effective solutions for long term hoof health AND optimal performance are found in the principles of Natural Balance trimming and shoeing. Check out the following web site to learn more about Natural Balance:

Lowell Gould, Ph.D.
Owner, farrier

My interest in horseshoeing began when I lived in Tucson, Airzona. At the age of 12, I watched and helped the farriers in my local area whenever I could. However, I never seriously learned the principles of horseshoeing until I was 25 and newly graduated from the University of Arizona.  For the past 15 years, I have been studying and practicing hoof trimming and horseshoeing on a wide variety of horses. In 1997, I was living in Billings, Montana.  Dr. Vicki Bokum was my veterinarian. She was helping me correct a lameness in a retired jumping quarter horse. Dr. Bokum introduced me to the Natural Balance principles at that time and suggested I take a serious interest in them.  In February of 2004, I attended my first Natural Balance clinic lead by Gene Ovnicek, principle investigator of many of the Natural Balance studies. Since then, I have had greater success in diagnosing and fixing lamenesses in many different kinds of horses. I firmly believe that education is a vital part of any successful career and horseshoeing is no exception. I also believe that the LX Equine mission can be better accomplished if all employees and owners are kept up to date in their specific fields of interest.  For this reason, I plan to attend as many educational and professional events as possible to better serve our clients.
